Sunday Hike 22/03/2026

I wore shorts, the others didn't wear shorts; but I bet they wished they had worn shorts!

On Sunday 22nd March five members of the club began hiking from Crickhowell, along Great Oak Road, left to Wern Farm, through a couple of fields, ascending through anceint woodland, out onto open land continuing to ascend, taking a scramble to the right of The Darren. Across scrub and finally on the ridge where we met a sixth member below Pen Cerrig-calch. We walked together ticking off Pen Allt-mawr and then two members descended at Pen Twyn Glas.

Far reaching views, ooh lala!

Four of us continued along the ridge taking in Waun Fach, Pen y Gadair Fawr, Pen Twyn Mawr and then we took a descent at a cairn on the right hand side into a valley. We ambled down the valley, along a tarmac road before making one final ascent to quest below Table Mountain and take a return journey back into Crickhowell down Llanbedr Road.

It was a great day for a 20 mile hike, taking in 1189m of ascent. The weather was fair and the company was fantastic…I hope to lead more hikes like this!
