Night Nav Feb 2026

Meet Co-ordinator: Ian Inch.

Aware my nigh nav is ropey I thought what better way to practice than to enlist members in an exercise ;-)

Having selected a night with a new moon and a check with the Common Conservators I started tracking the weather forecast - a nice dry still night would do … When they appeared forecasts started wet - then dry and I gave a sigh of relief , then a bit wet again - was I getting a cold ? - no excuses there, so I confirmed the date. Then - with 2 days to go strong winds and a yellow snow forecast !  Remembering a nigh nav practice behind Bethesda in the snow a few years ago I thought - a bit of nice crunchy snow would be good …

So 7 of us assembled by the Golf Course with a fiercely unpleasant wind driving snow and slush underfoot. We checked off controls down the West side of the Common with a bit of groping around and group help and the odd phone , but without goggles it was impractical to turn East and hop over the other side , so those controls will have to wait of next time..  We did visit the highest tree in the Cotswolds though - appearing  as a  forlorn spectre in the gloom.

A fine reminder of true winter conditions worthy of any munro on our doorstep - thanks to everyone who took part - now I just need to arrange the weather a bit better for next time!
