In Memoriam: Tony Raphael

Dr Richard Anthony Raphael, 9th December 1945 - 4th April 2026

Tony was an active member of the GMC for over 17 years. After joining he quickly became one of the regulars at the weekday evening climbing sessions and other Club events. Tony was also a skier and a keen walker, both with the GMC and various other groups. Tony collapsed and passed away while walking with a group of old friends and ex-colleagues SW of Ullapool in the Scottish Highlands, descending from Beinn Enaiglair.

Tony will be sorely missed by very, very many of us ! I for one will always treasure memories of the good times we had on many routes in this country, on various ‘hot rock’ trips to southern Europe and Morocco as well as climbing and skiing holidays in the Alps and the Dolomites.
