Welcome
Since its formation by a small, determined group of hill and
mountain lovers in 1955 the Gloucestershire Mountaineering Club
(GMC) has gone from strength to strength and now has a membership
of over 120 mountaineers, climbers, walkers, ski tourers, mountain
bikers and fell runners, its own hut in Snowdonia and a very active
meets list.
In addition to the monthly pub meet (now at
The Warehouse Climbing Centre, Parliament Street Gloucester)
on the first Tuesday of every month, trips are organised to
areas such as North Wales, the Lake District, Cornwall, the
Peak District and Scotland. Also during the winter months evening
meets are organised at the climbing wall at The Warehouse climbing
centre in Gloucester where rock climbing skills are honed and tall
tales are told over a beer in the bar afterwards!
However, the club does not just limit its activities to the UK.
Over the years the club has organised a number of expeditions to
the Himalayas, as well as trips to the Alps and the Dolomites.
While individual members have travelled further afield in pursuit
of their passion with trips to practically every European country
as well as South Africa, S America, N America, Canada, Thailand,
Antarctica, Australia, New Zealand and Jordan to name but a few of
the exotic destinations!
The club has its own hut, ‘Cefn Goch’ in Deiniolen, North Wales as well as reciprocal rights with the Lancashire Climbing & Caving Club who have a hut near Coniston.
New members welcome — see membership for details on how to join!
